I have a 6600 with z170 motherboard and just got an RTX2080 - is there a worthwhile upgrade CPU that doesn't involve me getting a new motherboard?

Or am I better just upgrading to coffee lake in which case what would be a good motherboard / CPU combo? Wont be overclocking so basic mb etc is fine.

Don't really want to go over £300.

When you're spending that much on a graphics card your standards of worthwhile improvement are likely to be different to normal, so what sort of change would you be happy with?

Given pre coffee lake i7’s seem to cost the same as 8700’s I decided to upgrade - so got an 8700, z370 mb and new cooler coming today   can reuse my ddr4.

Was £400 but Ive not upgraded since 2015.

Thanks for replying though.

If I may butt in I'm thinking of upgrading from my i5 8600k preferably to the i9 9900k (I too just got a 2080ti). Is a straight swap simple? What would I need to do software/bios wise?

As long as your mother board is compatible then all you need to do is update the bios to the latest version and install the new CPU.
