intel cpu cooler compatibility?

I have a premium cooler from an old I7 machine with an LGA 1150 chipset. Can I Mount this on a modern I7 or the brackets different?

The LGA2066-3 i7-7740X wouldn't work, but I believe all the LGA 115_ sockets use the same mounting system with slight variations in height. So coolers with backplates occasionally have issues, but most can tolerate the variation.

is it just me, ir was the 1150 a dead end. It seems like nothing is compatible with it from a year after release.

Intel are swapping their sockets with almost every new range now. 1150 lasted the same amount of time as most of the other recent ones.
