I just bought this graphics card to upgrade a PC so my daughter can play a few newer games - Asrock Radeon RX 570 Gaming Dual 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

The problem I have is that when I install it the PC wont POST, it give 5 beeps indicating a CPU error. The PC runs just fine on it's onboard graphics and I have tried the only other spare card I have in there (an old 8800 GS low profile card with passive cooling) and it boots just fine and displays an image, so I am assuming that the PCIE x16 port is OK.

I RMA'd the RX 570 thinking that I must have a dud card, but it tests out just fine with the supplier (Overclockers).

I am thinking it might be power related, the 8800 I tested it with is a low power card and doesn't need an additional connector from the PSU, unlike the 570. The power supply is a brand new EVGA branded 600W supply, so should be adequate.

I am just waiting for the card to arrive back, but in the mean time has anyone experienced anything like this or have any other idea what the cause might be?

Its a bit of an odd one, a Kontron KTQ77/Flex. KTQ77/FLEX | Kontron

I have an Ivy bridge I7 in there (cant remember which without checking) and 16 GB of ram.

The system works absolutely fine with onboard graphics or the low power card I tried. I have a mate dropping a spare power supply round to me later to rule that out too.

You could try disabling the integrated graphics in the bios and set the primary output as PEG (PCIE).

That industrial board exposes a lot of options consumer boards do not normally have in the bios, it's possible it's a configuration setting they chose but I've no idea what it could be.

Also from the manual it looks like the board is still supported via bios updates with one released in 2019, however their customer support site is user/pass protected so unless you have an account with them your not going to get in.

From the manual page 145 the 5 beeps can be floppy error, cpu error or fatal error with the suggestion to remove any expansion card so that sounds the closest. But it does not offer any other solutions beyond that.

PSU should be adequate, EVGA make decent ones.
Tough one, do you have the CPU overclocked? If so try setting it to the default speed.

No promises but try this to see if it requires the primary display to be set.

page 120 of Manual

Boot to BIOS

Chipset tab

primary display select PCI

F10 to save and exit

What BIOS version is the MB at?

Thanks all.

The Bios is 2.14.1219, I managed to find an update but their own update tool doesn't seem to run on W10 (the update is from 2015).

I have tried a few different BIOS settings but no joy, everything is pretty much set back to default / auto and when I drop in the old 8800GS card I have it switches to that as the primary display without any issue.

The processor isn't overclocked, everything is at default settings.

I think either the board needs a bios update to work with this newer card, or there is something wrong with the power supply and it is falling over and not supplying to CPU due to the extra load. I will be able to rule out the power supply later and if it isn't that I may just bin the board, it was a bargain anyway for the CPU alone.

Yes their site is a bit of a nonsense, you have to be registered, they have to accept you, you have to give a company email etc etc. Wow guess end user customers don't fit into their scheme of things! So it's difficult to check anything out for you.

Yes as said the bios settings was a bit of a longshot.

Don't think it's anything to do with overclocking.

This is the more likely.

Maybe the PSU but seems unlikely, though they are power hungry. But at least you can eliminate any doubt you have on that front

I doubt it will be the board. If it boots fine with the other PSU then you know it is the PSU. If it doesn't I would say it is the GPU.

If the PSU doesn't solve it the we can guide you through creating a bootable usb drive for bios updates.

It's AMI bios so you might also be able to use the AMI bios tool.

Obviously you would need to do a backup of your current BIOS to be sure you can put it back in case of any issues.

I assume you downloaded the file from Kontron?
