Which wifi card do I need?

PC uses an old wifi card thats rubbish, so after a new one but not sure which will fit, present one in is a qualcomm atheros ar5007g wireless adapter at present.

Any help appreciated.

That's the model number for the wi-fi chip itself, not the card, and you haven't given us any other details. It's impossible to tell what form factor/connector your current card is attached by or which ones your computer might support.

Which area does your current card have trouble with?

The external USB ones work very well. Usually just plug and play.

Unless you tell us what Motherboard/PC, broadband speed ,router, and the wifi capabilities of it are, we cannot begin to recommend anything.

Help us by helping yourself and supplying the model of your motherboard ans what version of windows your running. The MB is the starting point for any advise that might help you.

What internal 5ghz wifi card will replace this, photo attached? Old PC can't pick up wifi so presume it's this old wifi card, BT is 5ghz so want to replace it with a new 5ghz decent wifi card, any ideas what board connection it is thanks and what would upgrade it? Pic attached.

But you can replace it with any PCIe wireless card, just take a look on amazon and you will see loads of them.

Also as @noiseboy72 stated previously a USB dongle is a good alternative and they work well

Most routers are 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz, so your card should work with your BT router. 5.8GHz does not travel as far as 2.4GHz, so if the signal is weak, a new card may not improve things.

I've also not seen a PCI card with 5GHz, but if your PC has the shorter PCIe slot, you will be able to get a new card.

No, most dual band routers cover all of the 5Ghz spectrum allocated to wi-fi, not just the short range device limited power (25mW) channels around 5.8Ghz (channels 144-173 in Europe).

@brad123: That's a PCI-E expansion card. It's not Mini PCI-E or M.2 PCI-E. Although it's a half height (aka low profile) card it appears to be using a full height bracket so it's likely your case would take full height cards too (although most wi-fi cards are half height).

Thank you for the help. Can you recommend which one to buy please. Present one gets 1 bar of WiFi even when next to router. gets nothing when in downstairs room. We tried a wifi dongle, this one but didnt work.
