Do I need a new psu?

Got an RX580 and a   Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 500W 80 Plus   which have worked fine for months, but someone told me the PSU isn't good enough and is dangerous, is this true ?

Here is a link to the AMD RX580 specs. A 500W PSU is listed as the minimum requirement for the card

As your PSU is 80 Plus you should be OK without any problems if you are running a basic setup. If you are running a lot of extra drives,  fans, RGB lighting, water cooling you may run out of power but this wouldn't be dangerous

Johnnyguru reviewed the 600W model and found it out of spec which may be where the notation of it being dangerous comes from:

Yours may not be the same, different wattages often use different designs and there appear to be V1 and V2 models floating around.

The 'danger' would be potentially shortening the life of your components, there's no evidence there that it's going to catch fire and burn your house down. Most stuff tolerates a bit of deviation from the ATX spec though.

PSU capacity statements based on a graphics card alone are always highly speculative and tend to assume some common worst case scenario for the power draw of everything else. 500W is fine for the vast majority of computers.

Ok great thanks Mine is a V2 as it has braided cables
These are the specs also...
On google and amazon it has 100% positive reviews

I was panicking because someone told me it could damage my components.

Once ive saved up some money and found a PC repair specialist in my area I will look into buying a new one

Cooler Master make good PSU's. Yours is guaranteed for 3 years and as you can imagine they would not be doing that if they considered it to be a bad product. I've looked around for reports/reviews on it and haven't found anything bad at all.

Maybe the report on the other forum was down to a product that went faulty, it can happen to the best of products, or was a different power rating. Unless you are having definite issues on the power front then you have nothing to worry about.

The AMD RX850 spec does recommend a 500 watt PSU. If you had insufficient power from your PSU to run your entire system and it's component parts then you would soon know about it as you would no doubt see the system failing.

I'm 50/50 and don't know what to do. Some people are saying I must change it asap and others are saying it's fine

Why are people saying you should change it asap, for what reason? In any event it makes no sense as there are not any issues that I have found in my research.

A few on here have stated that the PSU is fine so sorry but I don't understand what your concerned about. Has your PC been crashing or showing signs of problems as far as the GPU is concerned?

Nothing whatsoever, runs fine.
I was told that by the time any problems occur it's too late, maybe it's scare mongering I don't know. The only negative review i've found is this one...

However, the one he's testing is a slightly different model to mine, he is testing the 80  white edition, whereas mine is the 230v 500w edition
The title of the review is wrong, if you see page two it's a different model to mine.
