I'm looking to get a new laptop capable of playing 4k rips mkv, etc, don't really need it for gaming
As long as I can connect to receiver so I can get atmos, dts x, and play 4k I'll be happy
£800 budget
Any advice please?

Most GPUs now have playback hardware for both HEVC and VP9 variants at 4K so your main limiting factor will be the screen or video output depending on how you plan to use it.

You're after a laptop with HDMI 2.0 output then. I'm not certain about atmos support, does your chosen source offer it on PC?

Why use a laptop if the primary function is to connect to a receiver and TV?  Why not just go with a media player instead?

There are few PC's that have 4K screens. I use an Alienware 4K PC but it's way above your budget, I'm afraid. You also need a really fast processor, otherwise you may have stuttering problems. NinjamonkeyUK above may have your answer..

Vero 4K, about £120.  Plays everything I throw at it.  No need for a laptop as a permanent solution to play media on a TV!
