Can't get in

i have an asus notebook but have forgotten the password. I followed the steps that Microsoft suggest for getting back in, but it does not work.
Any suggestions for gaining access would be most welcome.

You will need to use a utility disk like Hiren's to reset or clear the password.

What is it the password for specifically? There are several different passwords you can set that'll lock you out of the whole machine.

Thank you for the two replies. In answer to EndlessWaves, the password is just so that I can gain access to the desktop and emails.
