Hello

I have an ageing Dell Vostro laptop, while it still runs OK it's incredibly noisy. The fan has always been louder than I think it acceptable and under any kind of load it ramps right up to running flat out. It's finally time to change it.

I don't want to spend over £300 ideally and happy for something second hand. It's mainly used for browsing/emailing/simple office and organising photos with some light editing, nothing strenuous. I want it to be snappy to use though to avoid any frustration!

Spec wise integrated graphics will be fine, ideally to run 2 monitors at a decent resolution. I'm currently running 1366x768 on a 24" monitor, maybe a step up from that so I can go up to a bigger screen?

Small form factor.

QUIET! (Doesn't have to be fanless, but a quiet fan that doesn't run all the time)

i5 of some description?

16GB RAM, but happy to upgrade that myself.

SSD. Ideally 1 already in it for the system and space for another as I have 2 SSDs here I can use.

It will be to run Win 10.

HP Elitedesks and Lenovo Think centres come up on ebay searches but no idea how loud they are or if they are any good?

Thanks a lot for any thoughts

Phil

Quiet PC sell a low noise system pre-built, the stock price is above your budget but if you
* select cheaper motherboard
* select no SSD
* select no operating system
* select no backup

That will get the price down to £323, though if noise is the priority I would spend the £40 extra for the Noctua quieter CPU cooler on the list of choices.

For second hand desktops a Dell Inspiron should be okay, their usually quiet enough bar the noisy HDD which can be swapped out.

Thanks next010. The quiet PCs do look good but at £323   £40 plus RAM that's really getting quite a lot over what I want to spend.

I'll check out the Inspirons
