It's a year older but a generation newer. It's the GK208 Kepler chip which was launched in 2013 as the GT 640 v2. It is still supported by the way, the latest driver for it on NVidia's website is less than two weeks old.
But yeah, it makes no sense at all to go for a configuration like that as it's far interior to modern integrated graphics. For example it lacks support for the latest video formats so playback will take much more CPU power (so it'll be hotter, noisier and in some cases not possible at all).
A GT 710 would generally be used as an additional graphics card to add support for additional monitors or for high end workstation builds where everyday use doesn't matter. |
