What are the capacity ratings of laptop batteries?

HI All,

can someone please clear up for me what seems very confusing. Just what are the capacity ratings of laptop batteries?

The battery in my late wife's Toshiba Satellite L450D-113 needs replacing as it is not holding it's charge for very long.

The rating on the original Toshiba battery is marked as 44Wh, which I reckon is the same as 44000mWh. Most batteries on the market are quoted as being 4400mWh.

Does this mean that replacement batteries have only one tenth of the capacity of the original? I doubt it somehow. Should the original battery have been marked "4.4Wh" instead of "44Wh"?

Can anyone clear up this apparent anomaly?

Have another look, I think most batteries are quoted in mAh so a 4400mAh battery at 10.8V = 48Wh.

Battery ratings for laptops are generally rated in Milliampere hours (mAh)

Watts/Power=Amps X Volts

8800mAh x 10.8 volts (voltage of your battery)

8.8 x 10.8

=95.04 Wh

You can get a range of batteries for the L405D-113


4400, 5500, 6600, 8800 mAh

Generally the bigger the mAh the more costly the battery.

If you download "coconutBattery" or "Battery Health" (both free or a paid-for giving more info), either will tell you the original max or design capacity, along with full charge capacity or current max.
