UHD 4K Files

Got a new LG monitor ( native 1920x1080 )

In ubuntu there is an option for 3840 x 2160 and when I select it it works fine, and even plays UHD files.

So how is this HD monitor somehow playing UHD files ?

the software media player is playing the file at uhd and your monitor is playing it at 1080.

Possibly, but I'd think it's more likely that the downscaling is happening on the computer side of things.

It'll depend on what this 3840x2160 option controls.

For browsing the web 1080 is smoother with the mouse movements, for videos and games it looks the same.
