Let me explain.

I want to take the output of a PC, and send it to my MacBook Pro and use as an input for Open Broadcast Software.

This will be one input (racing software) and combined with camera footage on another pane of a split screen.

The OBS side is easy, but it’s the output of the PC running the race software (which is then projected for spectators) into the Mac that is the issue.

And no, I can’t do it all from that PC. The race software can be a bit troublesome when run alongside other bits of process hungry software.

I’m thinking HDMI out of PC to a USB3 input on the Mac? If so, any tips on what hardware I’d need?

Thanks!

I think you are going to struggle.   The only  HDMI to USB video capture device I can find is for Windows 10 (expensive at £122.00).  There doesn't seem to be a ios model. In general laptops only have video outputs.

Ah, thanks. Since posting this I’ve been hunting on Amazon for HMDI to USB3 - and find a bunch of recording boxes, but can’t seem to be able to work out if they send a signal out for recording to PC/MAC too.

I can run the Mac as Windows10 through bootcamp, so platform isn’t an issue. (Famous last words!)

The Blackmagic Intensity is one option - I use one with my iMac.

Blackmagic have a whole host of interface devices to match your potential requirements for Live events.

Thanks Joe. I had been looking at BM stuff, but obviously too quickly as I thought the HDMI was for playback only, not capture.

I’ll investigate further - though as all I need is HDMI in and USB3.0 out, I do wonder if this is taking a tank to a duck shoot!

John.
