- I wonder you haven't thought of flash photography - if this is done with a moderate frame-rate then you can have enough brightness/speed to freeze their motion... by combining with the next frame you should be able to plot their paths . . . . . . . . . .
This approach would significantly reduce the gear-cost -
You might involve a local camera-club, whose members can advise on the techy bits. At least they will be able to take some frames for you to judge.
PS I thought bats' eyes were sensitive to IR, so they can detect their prey ( e.g blood-sucking ).
