12harry,
yes, I have both VMS 10 (PlatProdS) and 11 (Plat) on the same machine in separate folders. Many of us leave the previous whole versions intact and I for one haven't experienced problems from that so far. So it's easier to go back to the earlier version, if you're not happy with the new one. E.g. with the latest 11 builds you can render but not burn an AVCHD disc without using something like the free ImgBurn.
Some users do report about VPro 11 confusing VPro 10 though now.
BTW, For updates, Sony's recent recommendation in Vegas forums is this:

Our recommendation is to uninstall prior to installing the update.

Some don't think this is necessary, but others have had trouble with some builds installing over previous builds.
As for 11 vs. 12...one would not know of course. Hopefully a couple of v11 bugs are fixed in an update (3 of those updates so far) rather than in the upgrade. One of these is in Media Generators (Titles & Text). From SCS tech support: "There is a known issue listed in the database where the key frames move beyond the duration of the event. This is listed to be resolved in a future update of the application. "
