70" TVs, is the Sharp LC-70UI9362 using the same panel as the Sony kd70xf8305bu?

Hi All,

As per the title really I'm currently 70" 4k TV shopping to replace an aging 60" Sharp hd tv and I've decided 75 is too big, and 65 isn't enough of a size bump.

I've had a search around and can't find much information on the new (?) Sharp LC-70UI9362 (which I just missed at Costco for £899), but I have been looking at the Sony kd70xf8305bu which is using a 70" Sharp made VA panel.

I'm not sure if the Sharp TV is IPS or VA, I can't find the info anywhere, but assuming it's the same screen it's still £400 cheaper than the Sony.

I don't care much for anything other than the best picture quality for my pound, as I have a full surround setup and an NVidia Shield 4K for streaming.

If I could find a decent OLED for sub £1500 I would put my money that way, does anyone know if CES will bring price drops?

Thanks in advance.

Up until recently Sharp-branded TVs weren't made by Sharp, it was a brand licensed to a European company called UMC. Sharp/Foxconn did buy UMC last year though, so a recently released model is more likely to be using a Sharp panel.

Oled - you’ll only get 65” ones, and likely to be around £1800 for an LG B8.

It might share the basic panel but the UI9 series is supposedly an edge-lit series vs the direct-lit XF83 so the backlighting will be quite different.
Active Motion 800 might not even mean it is necessarily a 100Hz model (though the models seem to be split between either an 800 or 400 rating).

Ah I thought they were both edge light? I know the XF83 doesn't have local dimming though, need to move up to the samsung 70 NU8000 but that's getting out of budget
