FIXED ip

hi,

I am new to this forum. I am currently building my home automation system and I bought the spacelynk. The problem is that spacelynk needs a fixed ip to be accessed remotely. I asked our local internet distributor about getting a fixed ip and they asked for a lot of money. is there any cheap/free way to get a fixed ip and get spacelynk to work remotely?

There's no easy way to fix your IP. It's something the ISP does and so may come with a cost. If you have a dynamic IP then, as said above, there are sites that update with your dynamic IP address so you can still get external access.

As I understand, the 4 set numbers are provided to the router, the first 3 are fixed but the 4th set you can change anything from 1 to 255.
eg. I have my printer set to 30 and TV set to 5.
Been like that for years, forgot how I did it now but just Google it.

@terryf  You are referring to the internal network IP range for which you have complete control over. The OP is referring to the public IP address between the ISP and the modem.

As an earlier post(s) mention, use a dynamic dns service (and a VPN if you’re router supports it).

I have been using No-IP for a few years now as BT don't provide that for residential lines... NO-IP works beautifully.

Thanks all for your answers. How can I make No-Ip work with spacelynk? how is that possible? can anyone give me guidelines please?
