You can fine tune them but i've never got mine perfect, I use line crossing detection but it's set off by rain, spiders, smoke from the boiler etc etc. Also, you can set the alerts at certain times but i've not found a way to turn them off temporarily which is annoying, eg if we're in the garden i'll get 100  alerts, ideally there should be an option on the app to temporarily disable alerts.

The firestick is Android, maybe you can install the app from the APK file?

Motion detection in general is very tricky to get right. I use line crossing detection on mine and it works pretty well.

Thanks for the replies guys. WHat about Dahua? Should I consider it or stick to the choices I have narrowed down already?

Motion detection depends a lot on what your camera is pointed to and how sensitive you need it to be.

If the background to your detection area is greenery or foliage then it's going to be variable at best as every time you get wind it's almost certainly going to trigger it. If it's a static wall/floor where there is literally nothing moving from frame to frame you'll have a lot fewer false positives.

Motion detection is not a panacea but it does cut down considerably on what you collect but getting rid of all false positives is unrealistic (and as mentioned depending on your background even impossible).

Just a bump regarding Dahua. How does it compare to my Hikvision choice? Should I consider it or not?

Never used it myself but from what I have read it’s comparable to Hikvision.

This thread makes interesting reading for me as I'm at a similar stage as the OP. In fact, I've just given an installer the go ahead. Reading back, I haven't gone into any of the detail regarding manufacturers etc, but I have had 3 different installers out and had a walkaround survey done.

If the OP doesn't mind, I've opted for the following:

Cabling as required / /Net connect
8 - Way recorder with onboard poe/IP
2 TB Hard Drive
4 cameras  5mp  2.8mm wide
Camera to front external RH
Camera in front LH
Camera rear LH
Camera rear RH
Cabled to office and HDMI connection to customers monitor.

The installer will be getting back to me so I'll ask a few of the questions raised here so far, however I do know that some of the camera are located on a lower level to others.

It would be good to find out the hardware details and total cost. For comparison. I've found all the companies I've been in touch with to be very slow communicating and getting information.

I have to keep chasing them. It's the same with most tradesmen etc I've needed. Long gone are the days when they worked hard to get your custom. At least in my area.
