As I mentioned in another thread a little while ago there are some *VERY* big 800pound gorillas in the commodity HA space and they are putting 10's if not 100's of millions behind it (Apple, Samsung, Google, Amazon, Phillips, British Gas (in the UK at least) etc.). Wink are not the first and are probably not going to be the last that go to the wall.
As @mushii says what does Wink have that any of those don't already have? Nest had some very well designed and unique products (smoke/CO detectors) at the time it was bought. Wink has a hub, some door sensors, a motion sensor and a siren. There's nothing there others don't do better or cheaper so where's the benefit?
In the longer run you're going to continue to have niche playerss like Hubitat surviving as they do something very different and very specific that no one else does. You'll have the long time players like Homeseer and Control4 who've been in the market long before it became mainstream and have an existing business model (and following) that supports them without the mainstream. You'll have the very high end professional stuff and then finally you'll have Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung and single device type players like Phillips dominating the market. That's still a fair choice but I don't think the commodity mass market space is an area where anyone who doesn't have a few billion to back it wants to be playing any more.
