The stage curtains open ...

"The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world."

This is one of the best psychological suspense/thrillers to emerge out of the 90's - perhaps one of the best of all-time. Claire Bartel (Annabella Sciorra), pregnant with her second child, is the victim of sexual abuse from her new obstetrician, Dr. Mott, when she goes in for her very first check-up. She and her husband decide to report and expose him causing other women to step forward which leads to the good doctor's eventual suicide. He left behind his wife (Rebecca De Mornay), who was also pregnant with their first child - but she loses the baby when she goes into an early labor. As she is recovering in the hospital, she sees a news report featuring Claire Bartel - 6 months later she assumes a new identity and becomes the Bartel's new nanny as she begins her elaborate plan for revenge.

This was such a well crafted thriller with excellent performances - especially by Rebecca De Mornay as the vengeful widow and Ernie Hudson as Solomon, the mentally challenged worker they've hired to do projects around the house. The story is intelligent and engaging. The pacing is good and keeps you involved from the first scene right on through to the climactic ending. This is one of my favorite movies and I've seen it many times, never getting tired of it.

It truly is a memorable film and, in my opinion, is one of the best of it's kind. A very high recommend. A perfect 10 stars!

score 10/10
