Hi,
I have a 30 odd year old Marantz CD6000 OSE Ltd. Ed CDP and was wondering how it compares to the up to date players like the Marantz CD6006 UK ED? It would be difficult for me to audition the two side by side.  I have a Denon AVR-X2300W and Monitor Audio Bronze 2 speakers - I was wondering if I should look out for any good deals with black Friday approaching would it be worth spending £350 for a big improvement? TIA

One cheap thing to try is to connect the cd6000 to the denon using an optical digital so you are using the newer dac in the avr. It may or may not sound better, but for a £5 amazon basics optical cable it may be worth a try.

The 6006 is a good player. I'd also be tempted to look at the Denon models with AL32 processing. I have a 6006 up for sale in the classifieds, not because it's not up to scratch but because I need SACD capability.

In perfect condition and in it's original box with remote and manual. It is not the UK specification edition.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                www.avforums.com

The DAC in the Marantz is a Cirrus Logic, same one that is used in the higher tier sa8005. I believe the DAC in the Denon is an ESS Sabre. I own both a 6006 and the sa8005 SACD player as well as a Denon DCD 2500 SACD player which has the AL32 processing. The Denon model to look at would be the DCD 800NE, which is roughly the same price as a new Marantz 6006.

To be honest, as a CD player both are very good indeed with little to separate them.

The Marantz 6006UKSE is considered to be the best sub £500 - some would argue sub £1000 - new player on the market so you can buy with confidence. I have one and can attest to how good it is. How it compares sonically to the old Marantz, I wouldn‘t know. Another consideration should be reliability. Player transports and lasers don’t last forever (but could last a long time.....). The 6006 can be found secondhand for £200-250 so I would say that’s the way forward.

I know they are not the exact same models but I went from a CD-17 KI Sig to a SA-14 S1 SE and I noticed a noticeable difference in detail. I would think the change would be worth it. Cheers.

That's a whole different ball game and certainly a cut above my sa8005. Nice bit of kit sir.
