The biggest influence on audio quality is always going to be the speakers, closely followed by their interaction with the room that they are in. The amp plays it's part but that is more synergy with those speakers and how well they work together. What amp do you have? How big is the room? More information is needed.

The Elys cart is highly regarded by the industry but less so with some owners, however at this level and assuming all is in good condition / correctly set up then the difference between carts is generally much less than between speakers in my limited experience

I have an rp3 turn table and after using the elys cartridge for a couple of years i changed to an Ortofon Blue. I was quite happy with the Elys but it did sound a bit dull compared to the Ortofon .

Ben does that involve spacers to fit on a rega ? And is that easy to do?   There was a second hand rega exact i seen but thats maybe dodgy going down that route for carts ?

In my opinion, the 3020s work well with a modern subwoofer and an amp with enough power to drive them.

I would get the room/speaker placement sorted with lossless digital inputs, then look to figuring out how to get the TT/cartridge to play nice with the rest of your gear. TT/cartridge pairing/set-up can be a fussy, frustrating process on its own, no sense swapping a ton of $$gear only to find the issue you were hearing was from the TT/cartridge, not everything else.

No the VTA was fine left as standard. I think i'd steer clear of second half cartridges only because it'd be difficult to tell how much use it'd had or if it had been looked after properly.
