I have a Cyrus CD6 for about 4 years, has been occassionally troublesome but usually an open/close cycle fixed it.

Now however I permenantly get a "No Disk" message afrer "Reading..".

I have Cyrus 6VS & GR10 speakers

Should I cut my losses with this player & buy something else, if so what?
Should I go for a repair?
Should I try something else e.g transfer all my CD's to a hard disk/streamer.

Quality is fairly important, I'm OK with MP3 in the car but not in the lounge.

Oh and does anybody know how to get the transport out so I can try cleaning the lens with IPA first.
Only got so far before the drawer front foiled any further exploratories.

Thanks.

Just in case anyone else needs to get the mechanism out.

Once the case base is removed.
Then with the drawer open there's a latch on the drawer rack.
releasing this latch (flat blade screwdriver) allows the drawer to be removed.
Then the rest of the mechanism.
Turns out to be a philips transport.

However cleaning the lens this way did not cure my problem.
But I did find pressing the ribbon cable (just a bit) I could get it to work.
But was very tempramental.
I now have it working (most of the time).
When it fails permenantly I'll see about getting something done.

Anyway that's my findings, for what it's worth.

Also it was very touchy geting the drawer to open/close both smoothly & fully again.
(mark position of the screws on the plate next time)

Obviously make your own mind up about risk of causing even more expense by opening the case etc.

Hello all,
Recently got hold of a Cyrus CD 6 se 2 from a friend of mine and after an embarrassingly short amount of time it started to read disc error, See previous threads ! After cleaning and checking contacts etc, I traced problem down to the disc drive motor, the cd holding and drive platter was floating free on the motor shaft !
Disc drive motor

MABUCHI MOTOR
RF-300 FZ-12350
YD 022419
D/V 5.9
Available from China via ebay bee_studio (17247)

Less than a pint ! Does involve stripping transport mechanism from case to access motor !
Still have friend !
Good luck !
