Body protectors, skinomi etc - looking for people's experiences

As per the title, I'm curious about screen and body protectors from the likes of rhino and skinomi. They sound a great idea but I do wonder how much protection they can offer! I'm interested to hear people's experiences, especially if they've dropped it onto pavement etc and its survived!

I've just bought myself a note 9 to replace a screen shattered note 8, which annoyingly was in a case. I'm obviously very keen to stop this happening again so looking at one of the above, or if I could find a decent screen protector (glass hopefully!) that actually fits in a case that'd do too!
