Talkmobile - Creating a Hotspot

I have tried to create a hotspot on my Moto G5.

I manage to connect to the Moto G5 from my laptop but cannot get any internet.

I have checked my APN (Access Point Name) against what is suggested online and have spoken to Talkmobile to no avail.

Anyone had experience doing this?

If you can receive data on your mobile and you've successfully created and connected to it's hotspot from your laptop there's no reason why the laptop can't access the internet.
The mobile's APN has nothing to do with no access.
Are you sure you were in a good data reception area?

I am pretty sure the APN does as it is mentioned on numerous online threads regarding hotspots and the talkmobile chap had me check this.

In the end I bought a O2 PAYG sim with data and used that (more or less) successfully.

It was a bit frustrating as I could have used my phones usual sim with its data allowance.

I know Vodafone is trying to migrate Talkmobile customers onto Vodafone packages. So maybe turning off hotspot functionality is a way of encouraging people to do this?

I get three bars of data with Talkmobile on the Vodafone network which was more that what I was getting with O2.

Not all sims allow tethering of data. Best to check with your provider.
