I've got my daughter a decent phone for her 10th birthday I just need to get a sim card.  I'm not sure what to get.  I wouldn't want to pay more than £10 a month, and I want something that can be capped.  I use a paid for app that blocks dubious adult content.  Just wondered what people used thanks?

What about a Three sim only 12 month contract? For £10 a month, you get unlimited mins & texts and 8gb data. You can choose to bar anything that falls outside your plan. So premium rate numbers/texts won’t go through. This particular deal is exclusive through Quidco (the nearest direct with Three is 4gb 24 month for £10). I took this out myself and you also get £45 cashback a few months down the line.

Three used to be not to good around here.  That was ages ago though, do all these companies share transmitters now?  Seems like a good deal though, thanks

No idea but in my experience, I’ve had great service wherever I’ve been. And speeds well over 100mb.

Check a coverage map for 3 and see how it looks. For data, they are generally one of the better networks, but all of them are improving all the time. As cell sites get upgraded, you often find you get better signal and additional fill in sites are added to support smaller communities as well.

From my experience; minutes and texts are pointless. That generation doesn’t use them. Get as much data as you can afford. 8gb is nothing with YouTube etc.

I've been looking at sim only deals myself as i'm on a discounted deal on Voda that has finished. (although they are still discounting it)

Sky (who piggy back from o2) have 2GB, unlim mins and texts at £6pm. If you have Sky you can watch as much as Sky go you want without it coming out of the data.

They also have an offer on at the moment for 12GB unlim mins and texts at £12pm. £2 over your budget but with a lot of data.

Virgin have 10GB, 5k mins, unlim texts for £10pm

Check them out here

It's also worth checking if you can get cash back too.

To be blunt, anyone buying a phone contract for a young child is being foolish. The bill limit cap is not a method to completely prevent overspends and a large bill can still be run up as there are a number of exclusions to the bill capping rules.

Rather look at the hybrid PAYG offerings like Giffgaff, Voxi or Smarty.

I have got my daughter a plusnet monthly sim. It is £6 will go to £6.30 soon but she gets unlimited minutes and text with 3gb data.

You can add a cap so one it goes over a limit I believe you would get an email and text.
