Unable to open attachments

I have just been sent a list for my forthcoming snooker fixtures by email. As I am away I tried to open the attachments on my phone but got the following message. This App is no longer compatible with your device.One attachment was in word format and the other three were in exel format Any advice appreciated.

I have just checked the version of Android on my phone which is a Samsung Galaxy J3 and it has version 5.1.1 and I believe there is a version 6 but may be wrong. If version 6 is the latest version how do I update it.

I have just gone to download updates manually and it says the latest updates have been installed

Word and Excel are part of Microsoft Office.
Do you have that on your phone?

Am just going to check but as there are three different problems if no joy with with this will go to my local Tesco Store and call into the phone shop as that is where I got it and I am with Tesco mobile.Will put on here what I find out.Thanks.

Google docs would also open them without having to pay microsoft

Have just been to my local Tesco store and went to the phone shop and when the assistant checked he said I needed Android version 6 but my phone was not suitable and I would need to get the next model.So will not bother as can open the atttachments on this laptop.
