Hi All,

My mobile phone has just ceased working and I am therefore looking for a new mobile/smartphone.

However, the now "deceased" mobile phone got very, very hot when used for Google Maps drive route functionality - actually so hot that after 10-15 mins use it came up with battery over-temperature warnings. Also , even if the phone was charged during the use of Google Maps the battery actually depleted. So unfortunately not the best choice of smartphone for my purposes.

So I am now looking for a smartphone that will work well with Google Maps - that is good functionality also without getting hot or having other issues. Besides good Google Maps functionality it would preferred if it has quite low SAR values. But apart from that I only need quite basic functionality as I actually only rarely use the phone either for phone calls or for internet searching. The camera should be quite fair. And it should be an Android phone.

With the above in mind I am considering either a basic Samsung or Huawei mobile phone - but if one of you here knows that either of these brands are not good for GPS - or some particular models don't perform well - I'd appreciate hearing about it. I'd also appreciate hearing about it if you have good experiences/may suggest a particularly fine basic model from either of these brands. I would be interested in a newer second hand smartphone as well ...

Thanks for any insights into this

Jesper

I think, you have misunderstood as why your phone is hotting up and what is needed to NOT to heat up, whilst SAR values have nothing to do with it.

any Navigation apps using significant amount of possessing and energy of a battery, hence good CPU helps (faster ones- use less energy- longer battery, less heat) and RAM to deal with other background tasks.

Next, I'd recommend, getting a phone, not just with A-GPS, but with GLONAS hardware

and lastly, I'd recommend to NOT to use Google-maps, but for "active" navigation- Waze or for offline- HERE

Moto G6 would suit you. Good battery life and battery management, good GPS performance and larger screen is easier to read when moving.

Hi both ... & thanks for your replies. I am trying to find a Moto G6 Plus here in Denmark where I live - it looks like a fine all-round phone with a good amount of RAM and a fine processor.

@Alvy: I am aware that SAR values likely are not related to GPS performance. But I prefer to consider SAR when choosing a mobile phone - out of health concerns.

Thanks again both of you
