Question Turtle beach x41 with amp

Hopefully an easy fix, but need to get my trusty Turtle Beech x41 working with my new setup, so I have an Xbox one s going to a Sony 1080 dolby atmos amp via hdmi, so I thought it would be as easy as plugging a optical lead from the xbox to the Base station but that don' work. The Internet only seems to show how to wire the basic setup.
Ideally all I want to do is press a button and the headset works with the need for the amp

Any ideas would be appreciated

That should work straight off. Only thing can think of is if a setting is wrong for the "optical out" on the xbox. I had this headset and the optical was wired direct to the base station from the xbox. I now have some Astro's and it's exactly the same setup. There are definitely settings that can be adjusted though. It needs to be on the right setting, think it's something like "bitstream out" for one of them, and "dolby digital" for the other. It's in the audion settings somewhere.
