Multi-player - different locations?

Grandson has Xbox One with Fifa 17, I have Xbox One with Fifa 18.

I'm at my house, he's at his....how do we link up to play against each other?
Possibly we need the same version of Fifa but if this was not the issue putting that aside...how do we set it up to play against each other? We've both got Live accounts.

You just need to add each other as friends and then you can play together.

But yes you need exactly the same game. However you can game share so that you don’t need to both buy a copy. This comes with its own pros and cons so I recommend reading the sticky post about it on this forum.
