Question Windows 10 Xbox App won't connect to Console

Hi all,

I can't seem to remote play on my PC from my Xbox One. I've tried everything.

I open the app on my PC and it doesn't find the console, so I enter my IP and it still isn't found?

The app on my phone finds the Xbox, so any ideas why my PC won't?

Thanks

Can you ping the Xbox from the PC ?
Click search/type in powershell/use ping command followed by IP of Xbox

If it replies then the PC can see it but cannot talk to it so maybe a configuration issue, if it cannot ping it all you have some underlying network problem or a very aggressive firewall active.

Is network discovery enabled in settings\network & internet\sharing options

Thanks, no luck though. 'Destination host unreachable' is what a ping gives me. Media streaming and network discovery is set to on for private network, but not for guest/public.

I really don't get it!

Yeah that means it can't see the Xbox on the network at all.

The obvious guess is if you have a third party firewall installed on the PC (via third party anti-virus) that may be blocking it or there is some kind of built in firewall on the router which is blocking traffic.

More advanced problems could be NAT based or other you'd have to login to the router config and have a look around.

In the Windows Xbox app go to settings\network and after the test finishes does it say NAT = Open.

Also another weird thing that can happen on some routers if your PC is on ethernet try changing it to wireless and see if it can connect to the Xbox.

Thanks. I tried turning windows firewalls off and that didn't work.

In the sharing/network settings in Windows, the Xbox is appearing though which is weird. I'm really not sure what else to try?

I tried splitting the WiFi yeah, and ensured the pc and Xbox were both on 2.4ghz. No luck.

Ok so an update - if I turn the console on with my controller, my pc can then find it? So the issue seems to be that the  pc can't start up the xbox when it's in standby...

Maybe it's the console that is the problem, the instant-on mode is really just a PC standby mode and like a real PC it can get a bit unreliable after some period of time without a proper full restart of the system. You could also try doing a hard reset of the Xbox.

Or maybe it requires something plugged in via USB (it shouldn't) like a controller try leaving something active on USB when in standby mode and see if it can wake it up.
