Xbox one controller mapping

Hi and good morning.

I don't usually bother with forums as I usually find a quick search on Google leads me to a solution

Anyway after scrolling through the same search results over and over I'm at dead end. I hope someone here can deliver some useful information

I've taken a break from gaming and have just returned after purchasing xbox live and a brand new controller

Now.
I'm trying to map buttons on my controller and nothing is working. I know once you have selected which buttons you want to map you need to click on "Done" which I'm finding is missing. In saying that the restore to defaults button is missing also. I don't know what to assume or think. just can't figure out what's gone wrong. I've turned my console off. Pulled the plug on the controller. I've even performed a hard reset. And still no ability to map. I'm thinking it has to be the controller as its not official. But I've used a similar controller in the past and managed to map buttons. Any idea's ? Oh and it's a wired pdp controller.
