Been looking at this extensively as I’m in the same boat, there’s a hell of a lot of badly written articles that make a mess of trying to explain it, hopefully this will explanation will help.
As a PSN user, you can sign into as many PS4’s as you like. You can only make one of these your ‘Primary Console’
On your nominated primary console, both yourself and any other users can access your downloaded games and PS subscription.
On any other PS4 console, ONLY you can access purchased games. So if your existing PS4 console is your primary, your Son can download your games to his PS4, but he can only play them if he signs in as you.
Also note if he signs in as you to do that, and you then sign into the existing PS4 console then I believe it will sign him out.
