I got a PS4 Pro and Samsung 4K HDR 8 Series TV for Christmas, and from day one I’ve been having connection issues. If I turn on HDR setting on TV and run 4K RGB on the PS4 Pro, I lose connection after a few minutes of game play (PS4 Pro supported games in HDR). Looking online for answers for almost a month. Tried changing to expensive HDMI 2.0 cables... 2 kinds... same problem. Most of the threads point to turning HDCP to 1.4 in safe mode. Things got better....sort of. No more losing connection, BUT the screen would go blank every few minutes for 3-5 seconds. That gets very annoying quickly. So frustrating that everywhere online suggests non-solutions. Was about to give up....and then PROBLEM SOLVED!
I was pretty sure it was a handshake issue. I was running 25 ft cable from my sideboard to the TV on the wall. I was convinced that the length affected the signal, but no. Decided to try one more type of HDMI 2.0 cable, but this time, made by a manufacturer that guarantees each cable is hand-tested, runs 4K HDR, 10-bit RGB support, Ethernet, ARC support, HDCP 2.2 and fully shielded. It was less than $15 so nothing fancy. Just full support of everything. I was not optimistic, but what the heck. To my surprise, all issues fixed! Full 4K HDR with no blank screens for the last 36 hours of game play. I even turned HDCP back to 2.2, and its running perfect. So the handshake issue is fixed by getting the right cable. It appears that Sony and the TV manufacturers are trying their best to ensure compatibility. It’s just that the cable manufacturers are not properly complying with the HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 standards. Blame it on the cables. Good cables don’t have to be expensive. Just make sure they support all the latest standards, and actually guarantees compliance. |
