Hi guys

I just picked up a N64 Charcoal Grey console (NUS-001 (EUR)). I've heard that it is difficult to get a good picture on the newer HD TVs. I know you can get a good picture through an s-video cable but on the back of my TV I have the following options...

20180829 232451 1

HDMI
RGB VGA
Component
AV2
RF

What do I need apart from the s-video cable? Or is it better to get it rgb modded?

Be interested to hear how you get on. Especially if there is any lag.

Did this work? I've just uncovered my old Playstation (SCPH-1002) but neither of my TVs have any sort of AV connectivty.

Right update. I purchased an s-video cable from console goods and a tendak s-video to hdmi converter. The picture is a massive improvement. Still not perfect on a HD tv but I don't think it ever will be unless you get the Ultra HDMI mod which costs in excess of £200. This is a good alternative and probably set me back £35 all in all. Plus I can use the adapter with other consoles should I need to. The alternative is to get an RGB mod and use a scart cable. That will probably set you back £80.

Try the s-video to hdmi converter I've got. It works fairly well.

So it arrived, and it does a passable job - some strobing on the menus, but in game it doesn't seem noticeable (though I only tried Extreme G Racing). It doesn't do any kind of upscaling though, so although it is technically displaying in 720/1080 depending on which you choose, it looks pretty blurry, but again once you're playing you kind of forget.

For £6, I'm just pleased I can play my N64 on a modern tv, and for a nostalgia burst, that's all I want. If I really want to play through some N64 games, I'll still most likely use an emulator on my soft modded Wii.
