e cigarettes thread Vs e cigarette, why not just give up thread.

Morning all.

I started a thread a few days ago about e cigarettes. This thread soon became a non-smokers Vs e smokers slanging match with some ill informed views being expressed. So much so that the thread was split into two. Original thread being the sensible questions & answers forum for anyone who was either interested in or who uses e cigarettes or products. The other thread a (fairly) good natured battle ground for the converted Vs the doubters.

I see that the first thread died a death very quickly and the other one is now on page 4 and counting.

I this an example of AVF members inability to reason and converse sensibly, in favour of combative cynicism and **** taking?
I've noticed that on GC most sensible threads descend rapidly into a slanging match where the original point of the thread gets lost in the script.

Or is it because GC (and the politics forum) tend to be more provocative in their format?

People are entitled to their views and opinions, as they do not break the rules then there's no issue. The only issue issue is people arguing in the threads, it would make sense for the smokers to stick to the "e cigs thread" and the non smokers to carry on in the "why not just give up" thread.

As always though people are unable to drop an argument and just accept that some people hold differing views/opinions.

I think you need to be careful though, because AVForums is a bit like smoking. Yeah it's all a good laugh until it leads onto harder things. Like mumsnet. :-/
