Kanger kbox - high voltage

Hi folks,

My partner has a kbox nano tc that she uses with a toptank nano. A few days ago she put a fresh .5 ohm occ coil in, which gave out today - display was showing zero ohms & nothing was happening when the fire button was pressed. I thought maybe it was a dodgy coil, she changed it to one of the ssocc's that came in the pack & it is working again. However, I'm noticing that the voltage readout appears very high. She's on 30watts, coil resistance displays 0.51 ohms, when it's fired voltage display reads around 6.8-6.9v.
I have a kbox mini (not tc), I'm using a occ coil that displays 0.6ohms. Again on 30watts when I press my fire button it shows 4.6volts.

Is the voltage on hers a cause for concern or can it be normal? Am thinking that maybe this is a possible reason for the coil dying so quickly (with my very limited knowledge of current flow). Does anyone have the same setup that she does & wouldn't mind doing a voltage test for me?

Something not right try the tank on yours and see what it reads.

At 0.51ohms it should read at 3.9v-4.0v at 30w.
As u say urs at 0.6ohm is about 4.6v which is about right u would think. Looks to me that sonething is wrong with the kbox but try her tank on yours and see whats what, if get around 4v then is ok.
6.8 or 6.9v at 0.5ohm is about 90w range.

Rather than starting a new thread I hope the OP doesn't mind me using this one.

I've just bought a Kanger Topbox mini kit which is my first foray into e-cigs. The trouble is that the vape that comes out of is very hot so I can only chug on it for a second or so, whereas I've seen vids where they can go for 5 seconds and more. I've got the SS coil in it and am running at 250c but if I turn it down to even 230c, it stops producing.

Any ideas where I might be going wrong? Cheers.

It turned out that the occ coil 'appeared' to have died due to the box not being calibrated when it was installed or summit like that. The guy in the shop said that it needs to be switched to tc mode & back to normal about 3 times to calibrate it to the coil, seems like a pain to me but partner is happy to do that so there we go

apparently the voltage she was getting on the other coil is normal for that type of coil (not sure exactly what type it was)

I've not used my partners e-cig, which is the same as yours however I've got the subox mini kit. It's very similar, just mine doesn't have temp control.

Is your airflow fully open? If not try opening it all the way & see if that helps.
Also, try switching to 'wattage mode' or whatever it's called, you do this by 3 quick presses on the fire button. In my experience the vape starts to get warm at 30-35 watts but still enjoyable.

Maybe others who are used to temp control devices can give you more info.

Thanks for the pointers mate. The advice from yourself and @GMC79 has certainly helped me a lot. It turns out the airflow was fully closed so I was puffing on it like a cigarette - which is bad apparently.

Anyhoo, I opened it up fully and now I've managed to get the temp down to 145C and it's nice and cool but still produces a fair amount of vape, not that I'm trying to compete with Ivor the engine lol.

I've also watched a few vids about the actual kit and according to them, you have to use the SS coils in temp mode so I'm kind of stuck with that. Perhaps if I get another tank I could use the Clapton in that and swap over to wattage mode but we'll see. My cig count has definitely dropped even in this short amount of time so that's another bonus, plus I can use it at work!!

Now to read through the liquid thread for some recommendations.

Glad your getting into it Don't be afraid to experiment and turn up temp to test what gives good flavour, Temp control always a smooth vape anyway, i always use farenheit purely based on the 100's of vids i watched prior to getting into sub ohm/temp control and always mostly always used temp in F often starting at around around 400f, but should easy go up to 250c  without issue even that is not max on lot of coils. 145c seems pretty low will probably start tasting better bit higher imo.

Also both of you dont forget to lock resistance in TC mode.

I don't understand your meaning. Resistance isn't a variable unless you change coils

The resistance of the coil will change as the coil heats up. That is how Temp Control works, by measuring the change in resistance of the coil to determine the temperature. This is why the coil resistance needs to be locked in, otherwise the device will misread the temperature and give the impression that it isn't working.

Make sure that when you lock the resistance in, both coil and mod are cold.

Ah cheers mate, never thought of that. It explains why my readout occasionally goes from 0.6 to 0.7.

I don't have tc on my box & my partner uses hers in wattage mode so makes no difference to us at the moment but I will keep it in mind for if I get a tc capable mod in the future.
