has anyone heard of the beep test and actually done one before (Multi-stage fitness test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ?

I mentioned it to the guy who does our kettlebell class some months ago - then I did my back in... but I'm poised to return there tonight, and he mentioned we'd be doing this on my return (I saw him last week)...

but he's done it in the class a few times over the last few months...

This was a standard tool in PE class 30 years ago IIRC. That's probably the last time I did it.

Yes still have nightmares of reaching level 17 something during a rugby club trial weekend. Anything double figures or above should be about where a "fit" person such as yourself is.

Yep we in the police use them and I believe that the armed forces use them.  Some of them are set up for 15m and done for another distance I think. We have to be at the end and turning on the beep. If you miss three beeps then you are out. If you get there too early 3 times then you are out.
Think of basic one is about 5.4 which really, we should be able to get to. I got to it before my back procedure when I had sciatica and the side effects of two herniated discs in the spine.

Did a beep test a couple of years ago for a Prison Officer role. Only one applicant failed and I felt so sorry for her.

Never got the job following the interview but might apply again just to do the beep test once more if any jobs come up as it was fun!
