Lyle has some interesting views, but so do others.

JISSN | Full text | Nutrient timing revisited: is there a post-exercise anabolic window?

JISSN | Full text | The effect of protein timing on muscle strength and hypertrophy: a meta-analysis

When it really comes down to it there are far more important thigns to worry about then protien shakes:

Overall nutrition
Rest/recovery/sleep
Form
Exercise selection
Exercise intensity
Consistency
Programming
Logging
Adding variety/training variables etc

When you say unecessary crap. Are we talking just macro %'s of individual protein powder offerings or other additives that have a negative impact on ones diet?

I use myprotein's impact whey as it's dirt cheap and I fit it in with the rest of my macros using MFP. Is there a reason to spend more on better protein other than getting a higher % of protein from a portion?

They add all sorts of other ingredients in, often in crazy quantities.

The purer, and the better quality powder the better.

I don't think Lyle comes across too well here (read the comments part):

Could you give me some names of companies that do this purer high-quality stuff, please.

I am running low and need to re-stock up, so want to look at around for the best quality/value ratio powder.

thanks.

oh right, I'm confused then.
When you said "They add all sorts of other ingredients in, often in crazy quantities.  The purer, and the better quality powder the better."...that was in response to someone who just said they used myprotein. So I assumed that by "They", you meant myprotein... as in, myprotein isn't much cop/add loads of crap to their mix.

So since you use myprotein, does that mean you think it's one of the pure/high-quality proteins out there?
That would be a good result, since it's so cheap!!

Cheers
