The only way to make Chinese food (What's served up in our take aways) healthy is to cook it yourself, then you know exactly what's gone into it.

That's the same for most of the food across SE Asia, the only places we found really spicy food was Bangladesh and Indonesia.

UK Chinese takeaway food is full of fat, sugar and salt. One single meal can easily have enough calories in it to fulfill your daily caloric needs.

Food cooked in a wok, should (in theory) be cooked quickly (thus preserving the vitamins etc) and in relatively little oil and therefore should generally be healthy... but as clearly pointed out above, the takeaways can add stuff as filler, flavour etc and you are perhaps better off without them. Same with Indian, Thai etc etc. As part of a balanced diet its fine as far as I am concerned, we have a take away or meal out about once a month.

I am more bothered about so called "healthy alternatives" such as those fake butters, half fat/low fat, diet versions of foods, where by they take some of the more natual stuff out and replace it will all sorts of rubbish!

I presume you mean Dream Gourmet? They are great! The only local takeout worth eating from. Very fresh tasting. Very little oil used when you watch them
