A few years ago I was really motivated and seeing good progress. Since then I have barley been to the gym a handful of times in a month. Even then the work outs are poor.

I really need to motivate myself but can't seem to.

Are there any exercise motivation books anyone can recommend?

I can not see a book helping much to be honest. You need to find something that gives you the desire to exercise. If the gym leaves you feeling numb them maybe try a class or 2. Or join a team or something else that adds a social element to it. Or arrange to go with a friend. Having a goal for the training can help too. Just to keep fir can wear off but if you enter something like a race or some physical challenge then this gives a new purpose to it.

Try reading You Are Your Own Gym, getting the app and starting one of the programs. Seeing good results quickly should get you motivated. I find having a structured program (that really works, isn't too hard and shows quick results) to work through really helps drive me on.

Also, watch Without Limits its on YouTube. Its a film about the life if Steve Prefontain, a runner who died too young to get the success he deserved.

Just watch the Rocky films, the music alone should be enough.
Also try watching Pumping Iron. years ago everyone in my gym used to quote lines from it

Take part in parkrun, free 5k run every Saturday 9am start. You need to register online to get a barcode, which you take with you and when you finish, someone will scan your barcode and you will receive an email letting you know how you ran that day. It'll definitely get you fired up once you start running. A nice way to start the weekend and a good way of meeting people who will help motivate you once you get started.
Look online for a local parkrun near you. I guarantee 10/10.
