Hi all,

My work lifestyle and a metal knee put me into a CBA attitude for some years & now aged 43 my muffin top seriously needs to go.

43
5'10'"
92kg

Play golf (walk) x2 a week (8miles), just started static cycling (40mins per night), cut alcohol out M-Thu, eat well but like snacks (getting rid) & hoping to shift the weight by the end of the year.

I'm reading up on testosterone levels affecting men of 40  with low energy levels depression etc & one page I read said zinc & vitamin D is a great source of combating that, however the advice is misguided.

Take too much risk of stomach ulcers, water retention, take it in the AM, take it in the PM etc etc and with that I'm confused!

I do not have stomach ulcers although I suffer from acid reflux, is the combination good or bad?

Thank-you.

I'd say forget the supplements just concentrate on cutting the bad stuff out of your diet and working on the exercise.

I also found strength training (5x5 weight lifting program) to be very beneficial in shrinking the waist line.

Stick to it for 6 months before you start worrying about vitamins and minerals as you should be able to get them from a good diet.

One thing I've never enjoyed is exercise especially weight training, I get no enjoyment so the drive is nonexistent.

Dragging a golf trolley around a course, riding a static whilst watching music video's or taking the dog on a 10 miler is however.

I ordered some multivitamins last night that has some fantastic reviews on Amazon from a mixed section, I'll see if that raises my mood/motivation.

Appreciate the input Shodan.

No worries mate. I've always been anti gym until June last year where I decided to give it a proper go. Quickly got hooked and now I love it!

I went for 6 months to an exclusive one, did spinning & weights every second day & the other second day I'd do the pool & sauna.

Hated the smells & the hygiene issues so I binned it & got fat instead lol

No mate, our local one is a well known chain & TBH the place stinks due to the clientele.

By the time I've driven over & back I can do 20 mins on the bike.

Get to your doc and get some proper bloods done if you're curious. Just tell him all of your issues and what you're worried about and he'll (hopefully!) see you right.

I was feeling a bit lethargic and weak. Doc took a range of bloods and a few things turned up. The main thing I had was an iron deficiency, plus a small Vit D deficiency and one or two other things. He took a look at my diet and gave me a few pointers and tips, and prescribed me a course of injections and supplements. I feel much better.

There's so many factors: Diet, Sleep (or lack thereof), hydration, nutrition, blood glucose, etc that self-diagnosis is the road to ruin. Been there, done that - never again!
