For those who you who have a penchant for, er, erm, watercress:
Alresford Watercress Festival | Alresford | Hampshire Food Festival
Couple of snippets from the site:
"At 10.30am a large cavalcade of musicians, dancers and children accompany the Watercress King and Queen up Broad Street as they distribute freshly cut bunches of watercress to festival goers".
"And more adventurous visitors can take up the challenge of the World Watercress Eating Championships - now in the Guinness Book of World Records".
This 'nationally acclaimed' (apparently) annual festival takes place in Alresford, Hampshire.
As it's on a Sunday I don't think the local train is running which is a shame as you could have had a steam train ride on.......yep, you guessed it, "The Watercress Line".
Anyway, Sunday 20th May - See you there guys!
Ps - on specific Sunday's throughout the year you can actually dine on the Watercress Line during a 3 & a half hour round trip. (well it's comprised of two round trips actually as the line is not long enough).
Unfortunately not only are they all already sold out for the year but there's no watercress on the menu either. |
