We went to a pub in Northumbria, where the Small Steak was 12oz and surrounded by a pile of chips, onion rings, garlic mushroom and a separate bowl of veg - as there wasn't room on the plate! All for £12.99 with most drinks about £2.50 per pint. They also did a 24oz "Henry VIII" steak and a 32oz mixed grill. Starters and puds were equally huge. Their "lighter" fish choice was the aptly named "Whale", which was 2 huge cod fillets double battered and served with 4 slices of bread and butter, chips and peas.
It was no surprise that the regulars were all quite large and the landlord couldn't get through the bar hatch!!
For me, this is just too much. I much prefer a meal I can hope to finish. I don't like the choke and puke buffets either, as the extreme eating you see at some of those places is just disgusting. I think it was the Taybarn buffet restaurants where the average calorie count was about 3500 per person. Sheer gluttony. |
