Is it just me or does it seem like toaster manufacturers and bread bakers need to sit down at the same table and discuss the size of their slots/slices?

Many breads have slices which are simply too tall for toasters.  On their side they are too long to fit, and on their end the top sits proud and you end up with an inch and a half of untoasted bread at the top .  Surely the people who work in either industry must have noticed the misalignment of their products.

Yep I agree most toasters dont do the job properly. We are looking for a new toaster/kettle combo and never know if there is any difference between a £25 toaster and a £80 one

I would recommend avoiding super quick toasters.  Our last purchase was for one that has a high output and toasts the bread in about half the time of every other toaster I've used.  However, the speedy-toast doesn't seem as nice somehow, and it's easy to over/under toast because the window of perfect toasting is much smaller.

Have you looked at "long slot" toasters?  They are "designed" for two slices side by side, but presumably would take one slice on it's side?

I got a 4 slot DeLonghi toaster about 12 years ago apart from the longest
Tiger loaves all other slices seem to fit.

I do like the idea of a Dualit 4 slot though

We have a vintage 6 slot, but there are 5 of us   You can still get elements so it's a no brainer.
