Recommended home gym equipment?

I'm planning to segregate part of the garage into a mini home gym. Initially I'm planning a rowing machine and multi-exercise weights equipment (not sure what it's called, but I'm thinking the multi purpose fixed weights machines).

It's an area I'm not familiar with - what is considered high quality home equipment? Any pitfalls with buying used to look out for beyond the obvious mechanical wear?

I had a multi-gym before in the past and it was never used, just gathered dust. I then joined a gym for a month or two and got to know which equipment I liked and used the most and then invested in that for home use. I liked free weights so bought a power rack, barbell, dumbell, plates, few accessories and a stationary bike for cardio. All new but tbh I'd try and look for something used. Unlike AV equipment there's no danger in buying something fudged if you view before buying. Something more mechanical like a rowing machine though is a different matter.

A decent adjustable bench rated for 200kg upwards.

Set of dumbbells with enough iron to load each one upto 50kg.

There's not a lot you can't do with a setup like this. And if the novelty wears off in the future, iron weights will always fetch a good price resale.

Thanks gents, good advice all round. I'll keep an eye out for some weights and a bench and get the cardio from the massive hills in and around the city!
