How is insulation measured?

If I was to install some recycled plastic insulation in my loft with an R value of: # R-value: 5.00
# 200mm thick

Does the 5.00 denote that its quite good or quite bad? Also, does anyone have any experience or heard anything about this stuff a BnQ are doing BOGOF on it.

There are better performing insulation materials out there (for a given thickness) but this sort of flexible insulation is good and easy to install. Polyeurethene boards are roughly twice as good for the same thickness, but much more difficult to install and you need to make sure there are no gaps...

I'd go for this stuff and put in as much as you can - more than 200mm thickness if you have the option.

I always thought insulation factor of any material was measured in a U-value.  Lower being better.
