Have been told that domestic systems don't actually feed back into the grid.  It's pointless because there is so little when billions of KWs are available instantly from powerstations.

Well if you cannot use all you generate when the sun is shining then the electrons have to go somewhere. This that have conventional dial meters see there meter going backwards so it must be going into the local network otherwise there would have to be an electron leak somewhere!
