What are troops really going to do?  Realistically, the only scenario they'd be useful in is a Mumbai style run-n-gun.  Most often, the time a bomber sets the bomb off, there's nothing left to shoot.

I for one wouldn't. I have no wish to live in a North Korea/East Germany/Russia as that ultimately is the level you would need to go to.

There have already been cases of the police abusing their current powers, and if they had more they would use them to suit not as needed.

It's nearly impossible to stop this type of thing.  Mentally fragile people getting manipulated to do these things is very hard to stop.  Definitely, a better border control system is needed here and thank foook we are eventually coming out of Europe.  The internet needs moderating... Maybe a bit like the Chinese do

Also to note, once you give up liberty, the state never gives it back.   Same as taxes.  Everything sold as temporary never is, it just becomes the new normal of its own.

ID cards just tell you who somebody is, not what they're going to do.  How does that stop anything?
