A student union group has been roundly condemned after mounting an extraordinary defence of Stalin's notorious gulags.
Over one million people died in the infamous worker camps in the Communist Soviet Union, while other critics of the regime were imprisoned there for years and forced to work to the edge of exhaustion.
But hard-left activists at Goldsmiths university tweeted a defence of the gulags - claiming they helped rehabilitate workers and were nicer than Western prisons.
They claimed that inmates were actually treated well and allowed to join theatre groups and write for prison newspapers.
Ok that was the Daily Heil, So far so good. Though, "The group, tweeting under the name LGBTQ Goldsmiths, said they wanted to 'clarify what a gulag is' and why sending people there 'is actually a compassionate, non-violent course of action'."
Must be a wind up. Surely they know what Soviet Russia thought of gays. Perhaps if Corbyn gains power, they might be gaining first-hand experience of the gulag system quicker than they think.

Pyotr Verzilov of the Russian protest punk band Pussy Riot is in a Moscow hospital after experiencing loss of vision and movement. His bandmates say he was poisoned. Verzilov fell ill after attending a court hearing, according to his partner and bandmate, Veronika Nikulshina. Verzilov is one of the four members of the band who invaded the pitch during the 2018 World Cup final.

Stalin decided to "collectivize" the grain-producing breadbasket that was the Ukraine. His agents seized all land from the peasants, expelling landowners and placing loyal ideologues with little agricultural experience in charge of the newly collectivized farms, which began to fail miserably. And to fulfill Five-Year Plan goals, he seized all the grain and food that was grown in 1932 and 1933 to feed the rest of Russia and raise foreign capital, and in doing so left the entire Ukrainian people with nothing to eat—except, sometimes, themselves.
In the face of starvation, some families divided, parents turning against children, and children against one another. As the state police, the OGPU, found itself obliged to record, in Soviet Ukraine "Families kill their weakest members, usually children, and use the meat for eating." Countless parents killed and ate their children and then died of starvation later anyway. One mother cooked her son for herself and her daughter. One 6-year-old girl, saved by other relatives last saw her father when he was sharpening a knife to slaughter her. Other combinations were, of course, possible. One family killed their daughter-in-law, and fed her head to the pigs, and roasted the rest of her body."
As an informative propaganda poster said at the time: “Remember! It is wrong to eat your children!!”
