There are 114,000 jobs that locally support Heathrow, a further 22,000 in the London area. No airport = no job, and you want to build hundreds of new houses?
But we're not - at least when it comes to political decision making. I think Heathrow expansion is the only real workable option Westminster could deliver.

There was a non political, independent review carried out at the beginning of the year and their recommendation was an expansion of Heathrow vice any other UK airport.
"The Airports Commission examines the need for additional UK airport capacity and recommends to government how this can be met in the short, medium and long term.
Airports Commission works with the Department for Transport."
